Peig Sayers or Máiréad Sayers, was born on March 29, 1873, was a renowned Irish author and storyteller, or a “seanchaí”, from Dún Chaoin, County Kerry, Ireland. She was one of thirteen children in her family, and both her father, Tomás Sayers, and her mother, Peig (née Ní Bhrosnacháin), were storytellers themselves.
Peig's works and storytelling highlighted the traditional Gaelic culture of Ireland. Her autobiography, "Peig," written in Gaelic, became a significant part of the Irish language school curriculum. Her stories often depicted the harsh realities of life in Ireland during her time, but they also captured the rich cultural traditions and oral history of the region.
